Publish articles to any tool with a webhook

When your site runs on a platform Rank Prompt does not connect to, a webhook destination posts each article, whole and signed, to a URL you control: Zapier, Make, n8n or your own code.

Webhook destination

Rank Prompt reads

  • Your endpoint’s status code
  • published_url
  • post_id

Rank Prompt sends

  • Title and slug
  • HTML and Markdown
  • SEO title and description
  • Tags and images
  • JSON-LD
  • Signature header
Rank Prompt

What it does

  • Posts the whole article in one request: title, slug, HTML, Markdown, SEO title and description, tags, images, JSON-LD and the brand.
  • Sends article.published when you publish, article.updated with the same post_id when you publish again, and article.unpublished when you remove the article.
  • Publishes now or at the date you schedule.
  • Signs every request with X-RP-Signature, and can add a custom header for catch hooks that check one.
  • Records the published_url your endpoint answers, so page tracking and the citation reports follow the article.

What it cannot do

  • Drafts are not sent: a webhook has nowhere to keep one.
  • A request carries at most 4 MB.
  • Rank Prompt does not write to the site itself; what happens after the request is up to your workflow.

Before you start

Plan From Starter

  • An https URL that answers 2xx to a POST: a Zapier, Make or n8n catch hook, or your own endpoint.
  • Somewhere to keep the signing secret, if your endpoint checks the signature.
Setup

Webhook destination setup in 5 steps

  1. Step 1

    Open Integrations, Publish Content

In Rank Prompt, open Integrations, then the Publish Content tab. On the More platforms card click +, pick Webhook and click Continue.

The Connect a platform dialog listing Ghost, Shopify, Webflow, Wix and Webhook.
  2. Step 2

Paste the URL and keep the secret

Paste the Webhook URL. Keep the Signing secret Rank Prompt made, or make a new one, and copy it into your endpoint. Add a Custom header if your catch hook checks one; its value is stored encrypted and never shown again.

The Connect a webhook dialog with the webhook URL, signing secret, custom header and format options.
  3. Step 3

    Pick the format

Under Format, JSON-LD inside the HTML adds the structured data to the HTML body, and Front matter in the Markdown starts the Markdown with YAML (title, slug, date, tags, image) for static site generators.

  4. Step 4

Connect and map the test article

Click Connect webhook. Rank Prompt sends a signed article.test first, so the URL has to answer, and your no-code tool can map the fields from it.

  5. Step 5

Answer with where it went live

When your endpoint answers 2xx with JSON holding published_url (and optionally post_id), that URL is recorded as where the article lives. Without it the article is marked published with no URL.

Troubleshooting

Webhook destination: errors and fixes

These are the messages the app shows, word for word, and what fixes each one.

  • The webhook URL must start with https://, since the article and its signature travel in it.

Use the https address of your endpoint.

  • That URL does not resolve to a public address.

Use an address reachable from the internet, not a local or private one.

  • Nothing answered at this URL (404). Check the address, and that the workflow behind it is turned on.

Check the address, and that the Zap, scenario or workflow behind it is on.

  • The webhook answered 500 to a test article.

Your endpoint refused the test. Fix it and connect again.

  • A custom header needs both a name and a value.

Fill in both, or leave both empty.

  • The webhook URL now points at another host, so the custom header’s value has to be entered again: it is never sent to a host it was not entered for.

Type the header value again, or leave both header fields empty.

  • A webhook receives published articles only, so it cannot keep a draft. Publish the article or schedule it.

Publish the article now or pick a date.

  • This article is over the 4 MB a webhook request can carry. Remove the files embedded in its text and try again.

Remove the files embedded in the article’s text and publish again.

FAQ

Webhook destination integration FAQs

Still have questions? Contact our team

How is this different from Rank Prompt webhooks?

A webhook destination is a place to publish articles to. The webhooks under Developers tell your tools when reports and scheduled runs finish, and can post to Slack or Discord.

How do I check a request came from Rank Prompt?

X-RP-Signature carries t, a timestamp, and v1, an HMAC-SHA256 of the timestamp, a dot and the raw body made with your signing secret. Recompute it and compare. X-RP-Event names the event.

Can I publish to Framer or another CMS this way?

Yes, through any tool that can take a webhook and write to that CMS, such as Zapier, Make or n8n, or through your own endpoint.

Which plan do I need?

Webhook destinations start on Starter at $49 a month, and sending an article to one costs no credits. The article generation costs 10 credits per article.
