Integration guide
Connect your Shopify blog to Rank Prompt
Publish the articles Rank Prompt writes to your Shopify store’s blog, with the search engine listing, summary, tags, author and featured image filled in, now or at the time you schedule.
Shopify Rank Prompt reads
- Article URL and status
- Blogs of the store
- Password protection setting
Rank Prompt sends
- Title and body
- Featured image
- SEO title and meta description
- Summary and tags
- Author name
- JSON-LD
- Publish date
Rank Prompt What it does
- Publishes an article to one blog of your store now, schedules it, or saves it hidden as a draft.
- Writes the SEO title and meta description as the article’s search engine listing.
- Sends the summary, tags, author name, featured image and the article’s JSON-LD.
- Updates the same article when you publish again; a changed URL handle keeps a redirect from the old address.
- Removes the article from the store when you take it down.
What it cannot do
- The SEO fields live in Shopify’s listing metafields, so a theme that ignores them shows its own title.
- Shopify tells Bing and the other IndexNow engines about new pages itself; Rank Prompt serves no IndexNow key on a store.
- One blog per brand; a second blog or store replaces the first.
Before you start
Plan From Starter
- A Shopify store with a blog. Shopify creates News by default; if there is none, one is created when you connect.
- Access to the store’s Dev Dashboard, to create an app with the
write_contentscope. - The store’s myshopify.com address, plus the app’s Client ID and Client secret.
Shopify setup in 4 steps
-
Step 1
Create an app for your store
In the store’s Dev Dashboard, create an app, give its version the
write_contentscope, release it and install it on the store. Copy the Client ID and Client secret from the app’s Settings. -
Step 2
Open Integrations, Publish Content
In Rank Prompt, open Integrations, then the Publish Content tab. On the More platforms card click +, pick Shopify and click Continue.
-
Step 3
Enter the store and the app’s keys
Enter the myshopify.com address (Shopify shows it under Settings, Domains), the client ID and the secret, then click Continue.
-
Step 4
Choose the blog and the author
Pick the Blog and the Author name Shopify shows on each article, then click Connect. If the online store is password protected, the form says so before you connect.
Shopify: errors and fixes
These are the messages the app shows, word for word, and what fixes each one.
-
Shopify does not know this client ID. Copy it again from the app's Settings in the Dev Dashboard.
Copy the Client ID of the app installed on this store, not of another app.
-
Shopify refused the client secret. Copy it again from the app's Settings in the Dev Dashboard.
Copy the secret again; if it was rotated, use the new one.
-
The app on this store cannot write blog articles. Add the write_content scope to the app's version in the Dev Dashboard, release it and approve the update on the store.
Add
write_content, release a new version and approve the update in the store admin. -
No Shopify store answers at this address. Check the store's myshopify.com address.
Use the myshopify.com address, not your custom domain.
-
The online store is password protected, so nobody outside the store, search engines included, can read published articles until the password is removed (Online Store, Preferences).
Remove the password under Online Store, Preferences when the store opens. Articles still publish meanwhile.
-
That blog is no longer in the Shopify store. Choose another one.
Open the connection settings and pick another blog.
-
Shopify asked to slow down. Try again in a minute.
Wait a minute and publish again.
Why do I create my own app instead of installing one?
The app lives in your store’s Dev Dashboard, so it only has the one scope it needs, write_content, and you can uninstall it at any time. The app and the store must belong to the same Shopify organization.
Where do the SEO title and meta description go?
Into the article’s search engine listing, the metafields Shopify themes read for the page title and description. Rank Prompt reads them back after each write to confirm they stuck.
Can I schedule articles?
Yes. The article waits in Shopify unpublished with its date and Rank Prompt publishes it at that time.
Which plan do I need?
Publishing to Shopify starts on Starter at $49 a month. The article generation it publishes costs 10 credits per article.
