Connect Google Analytics 4 to Rank Prompt
See the visits AI assistants send you next to your AI visibility: which assistant, which landing page, and how that traffic behaves, from your own GA4 property.
Google Analytics 4 Rank Prompt reads
- Sessions and users by source
- AI referral traffic by assistant
- Landing pages
- Page views
- Countries
Rank Prompt What it does
- Splits out the sessions that arrive from 22 AI assistants, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude among them.
- Shows the landing pages AI visitors arrive on, so you know which pages the answers send people to.
- Puts sessions, users and page views next to your AI visibility score, for the same dates.
- Reads how each article you published performs once it is live.
Before you start
Plan Every plan, free included
- A Google account with at least Viewer access to the GA4 property.
- A GA4 property collecting data for the brand’s website.
- Nothing to install: Rank Prompt reads GA4 through Google’s API with read-only access.
Google Analytics 4 setup in 4 steps
-
Step 1
Connect Google
In Integrations, Measure & Track, connect Google and sign in with the account that can see your GA4 property. Google asks for read-only access to Analytics and Search Console; a page that needs only one of them asks only for that one. Business Profile connects on its own, with the same account.
-
Step 2
Grant read access
On Google’s consent screen, allow access to your Google Analytics data. Rank Prompt asks for the read-only Analytics scope, so it cannot change your GA4 settings.
-
Step 3
Pick the GA4 property
Open the settings of the Google Services card and choose the brand’s property under Google Analytics 4 Property.
-
Step 4
Read your AI traffic
Open Analytics: AI-referred sessions appear by assistant, with the pages they land on, next to the rest of your traffic.
Google Analytics 4: errors and fixes
These are the messages the app shows, word for word, and what fixes each one.
-
Connect with the same Google account used before, or disconnect Google first to switch accounts.
A brand keeps one Google account for Analytics, Search Console and Business Profile. Connect with the account you used before, or disconnect Google in Integrations, Measure & Track and connect again with the other account.
-
Analytics not connected or token expired
Google revoked or expired the sign-in. Connect Google again from Integrations; your settings are kept.
-
Your Google connection needs to be reconnected.
Reconnect Google from the Google Services card. It happens after a password change or when access was removed in your Google account.
-
Google Analytics: Google is rate limiting requests right now. Try again in a few minutes.
Google’s quota for the property ran out for the moment. Nothing is lost; refresh a little later.
-
Google Analytics: Google did not answer in time. The next refresh will retry.
A temporary Google outage. The data refreshes on its own next time.
Which AI assistants does Rank Prompt recognize in GA4?
22 of them, by their referral hosts: ChatGPT, Gemini, NotebookLM, Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, Poe, Grok, You.com, Pi, Character.ai, Le Chat, Mistral, HuggingChat, Phind, Komo, Andi, Brave Leo, Arc Browser, Meta AI, Cohere and DeepSeek.
Why does traffic from Google AI Overviews not show as AI traffic?
Clicks from Google AI Mode (AI Overviews) arrive as google / organic, because Google passes no separate referrer for them. Rank Prompt tracks your visibility in AI Overviews in its reports instead, and Search Console shows the queries.
Can Rank Prompt change anything in my Google Analytics?
No. The access Google grants is read-only, and you can revoke it at any time from your Google account.
Which plan do I need?
Connecting GA4 works on every plan, free included.
