Chase the sources you can reach
Domain authority tells you who is big; the Rank Prompt Score tells you who will actually let you in.
The penalties are a table you can read, not a black box. reddit.com takes thirty off, forbes.com twenty, a page that mentions you without linking adds ten.

What are AI citations?
When AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode (AI Overviews), Claude, Gemini, and Grok recommend a brand, they cite sources, specific websites they used to form that recommendation. We track these citations across all your visibility reports, showing you which domains AI platforms trust and reference most frequently. Citations are the foundation of AI search rankings.
Which sources does Rank Prompt split out?
Every cited page and domain carries its site type (your own site, a competitor, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Q&A and forums, news, reviews and directories, and more) and its relation to your brand. Citations and Domains are on every plan. From Starter, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and forums get pages of their own, grouped by subreddit, channel, author or site, next to Offsite mentions, Authors and Tracked pages.
How are Trend and Change counted?
Across the runs under your filters, taken in the order they started: the first half of the runs against the second half. With an odd number of runs the middle one counts in neither, so both halves hold as many runs, and a run that cited nothing still counts as a run. With a single run there is nothing to compare, so the columns stay empty.
What is Rank Prompt Score?
Rank Prompt Score (0-100) measures how easy it is to get featured on a citation source through outreach. It analyzes URL intent patterns (reviews, comparisons, guides), domain reachability (can you claim a profile, contact authors, submit content?), citation frequency, and content type. High score = high outreach opportunity. It's NOT just citation frequency: Wikipedia gets cited constantly but has a near-zero score because you can't do outreach there.
Why does Wikipedia have citations but low Rank Prompt Score?
This is the key distinction: Wikipedia, Forbes, and major publications get cited by AI systems frequently, but they have LOW Rank Prompt Scores because you cannot realistically get featured there through outreach. Our score prioritizes actionable opportunities: sites like G2 (claim your profile), industry blogs (accept guest posts), and review platforms (respond to reviews) where you can actually build presence.
What makes a high Rank Prompt Score?
High-scoring sites (70-100) typically allow profile claims, accept contributor content, respond to outreach, or feature user-generated reviews. Examples: G2 (+25 pts), Capterra (+25 pts), Clutch (+20 pts), industry blogs with guest post programs. Low-scoring sites have penalties: Wikipedia (-30), Forbes (-20), YouTube (-25), Amazon (-20). The score helps you focus on sites where outreach actually works.
How do citations affect visibility?
AI systems prioritize sources they've successfully cited before when forming responses. If your brand is mentioned on sites that AI frequently cites AND where you can build presence (high RP Score), you're significantly more likely to be recommended. Citations act like "votes of confidence" that influence AI rankings, similar to how backlinks affect traditional SEO, but specifically for AI search.
Can I see competitor citations?
Yes! Our citation tracking shows which sources cite your competitors, their Rank Prompt Scores (outreach difficulty), how often they're cited by AI, and on which platforms. This helps you identify realistic targets: if a competitor is cited on a high-RP-Score site, you know: (1) AI values that source, and (2) you can get featured there too through outreach.
Can I see pages an engine read but did not cite?
Yes. Next to each answer, Rank Prompt lists the pages the engine opened or was shown while answering but left out of its citations: the closest a page gets to being cited. One of yours on that list is a page to strengthen, and a competitor's shows what the engine weighed before it answered.
