Connect GitHub to Rank Prompt

When the fix is in your site’s code, the agent writes it: llms.txt, JSON-LD schema, meta tags and content, as a pull request on a new branch that you review and merge.

GitHub

Rank Prompt reads

  • Files in the allowed folder
  • Repository list of the installation

Rank Prompt sends

  • A new branch
  • Changed files
  • The pull request and its description
Rank Prompt

What it does

  • Reads the files of the folder you allow, so its fixes match how your site is built.
  • Opens a pull request on a new branch with the change and an explanation. The agent never pushes its fixes to your default branch.
  • Publishes articles to a blog in the same repository, as a pull request by default or committed straight to the branch you choose.
  • Covers the fixes AI crawlers care about: llms.txt, JSON-LD schema, titles, meta descriptions and page content.
  • Never touches GitHub Actions workflow files.

Before you start

Plan From Starter

  • A GitHub repository that holds the brand’s website.
  • Permission to install a GitHub App on that repository, or an admin who can.
  • One repository per brand; choose the folder the agent may read and change.
Setup

GitHub setup in 4 steps

  1. Step 1

    Open Integrations, Publish content

In Integrations, open the Publish content tab and click + on the GitHub card.

The Publish content tab, where the GitHub card sits with the other places to publish.
  2. Step 2

Authorize and install the GitHub App

Sign in to GitHub, then install the Rank Prompt app on the repository of your site. Choose Only select repositories to give it access to that single repository.

  3. Step 3

Pick the repository and the folder

Back in Rank Prompt, choose the repository and, if you want, the folder the agent is allowed to work in.

  4. Step 4

Ask for a fix and review it

Ask the agent for a change, for example “add FAQ schema to the pricing page”. It shows what it will change and asks you to confirm, then opens the pull request for you to review and merge.

Troubleshooting

GitHub: errors and fixes

These are the messages the app shows, word for word, and what fixes each one.

  • Your GitHub account has no installation of the app yet; install it first.

Install the Rank Prompt GitHub App on the repository, then connect again.

  • That repo is not accessible to the installation.

In GitHub, open the app’s installation settings and add the repository to its access list.

  • The installation has no accessible repositories.

The app is installed but was given no repository. Grant it access to your site’s repository.

  • This GitHub connect link has expired; start the connect flow again.

The connect link is short-lived. Start again from the GitHub card.

  • Several GitHub installations are available; pick one.

You reach more than one installation, for example your own and your company’s. Choose the one that owns the repository.

FAQ

GitHub integration FAQs

Still have questions? Contact our team

Can the agent change my live site?

Not with its fixes. The agent only opens pull requests on a new branch, and none of its changes reach your default branch, or your site, until a person on your team reviews and merges them. Articles you publish to the repository follow the mode you set: a pull request by default, or a direct commit to the branch you pick.

Which files can it read?

Only the folder you allow in the repository you connect. GitHub Actions workflow files are always off-limits.

Do I have to install the app on every repository?

No. Install it on the one repository that holds the brand’s website. Each brand connects one repository.

Which plan do I need?

The GitHub connection starts on Starter at $49 a month.
